Governor Walz’s declaration

What we know: On Sunday afternoon, a representative said Governor Walz would be holding a press conference at 11 a.m. to answer questions and talk about “the news of the day.” The governor’s office did not provide any additional information regarding the press conference.

A few hours later, Blois Olson, a political insider, said that the governor would “likely drop out of the 2026 race” in an announcement regarding his political future on Monday. According to Olson, the governor and Senator Amy Klobuchar met on Sunday to talk about the choice.

The backstory: Governor Walz’s handling of Medicaid fraud in the state has drawn national condemnation, even from President Trump. Walz’s opponents on the Republican side have accused him of taking too long to address the fraud.

Olson claims that Walz has also been under pressure from his Democratic colleagues to decide whether to run in 2026.
